ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA MODERNIST HOUSES
North Carolina Modernist Houses (NCMH) is a non-profit 501C3 educational archive devoted to advancing knowledge and awareness of Modernist residential design. Its three-fold mission is the documentation, preservation, and promotion of residential Modernist architecture.
The organization's website, www.ncmodernist.org, is the largest open digital archive for Modernist houses in America. Withinformation on 6500 Modernist houses, 275 architects, and over 22,000 images and videos, the site contains the complete residential works by Modernist masters such as Wright, Neutra, Schindler, Lautner, Koenig, and others.
To preserve the state's legacy as the third largest concentration of Modernist houses, NCMH filmed nearly 30 original video interviews with North Carolina architects, all available online, as well as special sections on pioneering minorities and women architects active before 1970.
The site contains a vast and growing collection of archived publications, both regional and national, including 50 years of NC Architect magazine.
NCMH created Project BauHow, engaging the next generation of North Carolina architects through giving away hundreds of CAD systems in rural North Carolina counties, systems the students get to take home and keep.
USModernist Radio is NCMH's podcast on iTunes, with interviews with guests such as Kelly Lynch, Paul Goldberger, Crosby Doe, Craig Dykers, Raymond Neutra, Susan Saarinen, and others associated with Modernist design.
The site maintains an exclusive free statewide list of Modernist houses for sale and has helped at least 200 houses change hands to new caring owners.
NCMH is frequently cited as a reliable source for journalists and scholars.
