The case, LaFleur v. Woodbridge Structured Funding, LLC. (Superior Court Case No. BC498722, Appellate Court Case No. B258832), resulted from the termination of an employee (LaFleur) shortly after she revealed her pregnancy to Woodbridge. In a unanimous decision, the jury found the termination was improperly based upon the employee's pregnancy in violation of California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA). On appeal, Woodbridge contended that the jury verdict should be set aside due to an improper jury instruction. The California Court of Appeal disagreed, finding that the jury instruction contained information previously approved by the California Supreme Court, and denied the appeal on that basis.
