How To Make a TV Show With Forty One Cents

I'm an unknown. I wrote this unconventional, off-beat script on a whim and sent it to some of my favorite actors, expecting they'd all say no...but, they all said yes!

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 29, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On a mission to make, Internity, the first ever "actor-created, fan-funded series picked up by a network," actor/writer Joey Adams (Bones, Body of Proof, Broadway) appears in a video detailing how average Americans can become Hollywood producers with spare sofa change. "We decided to fund our show with help from would-be viewers. It's the only way to tell this story with our vision and keep this cast in tact," Adams said.

Internity, described as "Scrubs meets E.R. and they go to Comic-Con together," is a genre mash-up about a young intern, Dr. Nate, played by Adams, who leads a misfit group of medics struggling to survive "intern hell" at a Portland teaching hospital. Nate's a pop culture fanboy who's prone to fantasy flashbacks and dream sequences, allowing actual cast members from viewers' favorite old shows, movies and Comic-Cons to appear as weekly guest stars.

For a no-budget series which isn't easily categorized, Internity has attracted several well-known stars who've signed on as series regulars, without any guarantee of a paycheck. Demonstrating their passionate support for the show, cast members appear in a series of promotional videos to help raise awareness for the show, which can be viewed on indiegogo.com.

Sci-Fi icon Marina Sirtis, (NCIS, Crash, Grey's Anatomy) best known as Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, will star as Dr. Camila, a fifty year-old, first-year intern who returns to medical school after a messy divorce, only to find her new boss (Adams) is just a few years older than her own son. Sirtis says, "What I find most exciting about this show is, it represents life. It's funny, it's sad, it's an adventure. It's excellent." She adds, "Whether someone likes drama, comedy, fantasy, sci-fi, this show pretty much has everything."

Joining Sirtis is prolific actor Jim Beaver, (Supernatural, Deadwood, Justified, Crimson Peak) whose arrival as the mysterious Andrew introduces the series' major storyline. Beaver says, "I'm happy to do something that's not going to be the status quo, same old-same old show. Internity is fun, interesting and meaningful. You don't often find a combination of all of those."

Rounding out the regular cast are sitcom vets Richard Ruccolo (Two Guys & a Girl, Legit, Rita Rocks) and Carla Jimenez (Desperate Housewives, Last Man Standing, Raising Hope) with Julie McNiven (Mad Men, Stargate: Universe, Supernatural). Internity's pilot episode will be directed by Michael Dorn (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Castle, Ted 2) who will reprise his iconic Worf role in a special Star Trek: The Next Generation fantasy reunion scene with Sirtis and company.

Adams said," I'm pinching myself. I'm an unknown. I wrote this unconventional, off-beat script on a whim and sent it to some of my favorite actors, expecting they'd all say no...but, they all said yes!" Adams adds, "I'm not just playing a fan, I am one. I've hit the jackpot, the only thing missing is money."

While the promise of an innovative new show with old favorites is exciting, and the cast is eager to praise the inventive script and excellent writing, they're also quick to point out the biggest caveat when making a network-quality, "fan-funded" pilot: There's no pilot if said fans don't contribute.

Beaver said, "We have two weeks left. This won't happen unless folks who follow us as actors decide they want to be part of a new show." McNiven explains, "It's hard asking strangers for money, but I admire Joey for not compromising his vision. If people reached into their cushions, they'll be happy with what they get in return." Sirtis added, "We don't expect anyone to pony up their life savings, we're just asking people for a small investment. If about 2,500 TV fans around the world claimed our DVD perk, together, we could make a great new show."

With the clock ticking, Adams says, "If you've ever wanted to become a Hollywood mogul form the comfort of your home, here's your chance."
