Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Dr. Gwen Murrell-Powell as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    LONG BEACH, CA, November 07, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Gwen Murrell-Powell, Founder and Director of Pastoral Care Chaplains of Color, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Dr. Gwen Murrell-Powell will be featured in the upcoming edition in 2015/2016.

Beginning her career in 2009 with the completion of her Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training, Dr. Gwen Murrell-Powell sought out to help others suffering emotional crisis by offering compassionate comfort to those in need. Committed to care of the soul, it gives her a sense of purpose and gratitude knowing that she is able to connect and touch the lives of so many.

"After losing my only daughter Shannon in 1992 to illness, my soul died with her," Dr. Murrell-Powell said. "During my grieving process I was seeking renewal of my own soul. After hearing a speaker give an inspiring message, the minister mentioned that she was also a chaplain at a local hospital. "This is how I learned of the CPE program."

Dr. Murrell-Powell previously worked for Continental Airlines and United Airlines in their Data Centers before co-founding a small computer technology business. Now working as a spiritual caregiver as Founder and Director of her non-profit organization, Pastoral Care Chaplains of Color, she dedicates time to promoting the field of chaplaincy. A Certified Clinical Chaplain, Certified Pastoral Counselor, and Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplain, Dr. Murrell-Powell is also certified in Clinical Pastoral Education as a Training Supervisor. She is a member of College of Pastoral Supervision in Psychotherapy (CPSP), Center for Spiritual Care and Pastoral Formation (CSCPF), and Southern California Chaplain's Association.
