MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, November 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- McKenzie Holland looks at the 10,000 hour rule and how Gladwell studied the lives of extremely successful people to find out how they achieved success. In the book Outliers, author Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of 'deliberate practice' (practicing in a way that pushes an individual's skill set as much as possible) to achieve mastery in a field. Gladwell concluded that the elite had more than double the practice hours of the less capable performers. However new research has offered an alternative opinion.

Outsourcing specialists in Melbourne, McKenzie Holland, has looked at a new study designed to disprove the 10,000 hour rule. A study by Princeton University tested impacts on 'deliberate-practice' across 88 tests, and meta-analysis found the rate of improvement across a variety of activities was an average improvement rate of 12% was through deliberate practice. A breakdown of the individual tests are listed below:
- In games, practice made for a 26% difference
- In music, it was a 21% difference
- In sports, an 18% difference
- In education, a 4% difference
- In professions, just a 1% difference
The research highlights the importance of domain dominance, and it agrees that in super stable structures such as classic music and chess that practice can make perfect but in less stable structures such as entrepreneurship, the rule does not hold the same effect, and can be discarded.
McKenzie Holland believes this additional research is crucial for today's entrepreneurs. It offers confidence to begin their journey to success, with supportive evidence that experience is not the only factor in determining success.
