CHATTANOOGA, TN, November 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Jody Hancock, Sonography Program Director and Professor of General and Cardiovascular Sonography Programs at Chattanooga State Community College, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Jody Hancock will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.
Becoming a radiographer and beginning her sonography career in 1986, Jody Hancock was privileged to experience her field fully transition into rea-time imaging along with many other advances over the past three decades. Now serving as Sonography Program Director and Professor of General and Cardiovascular Sonography Programs at Chattanooga State Community College, Dr. Hancock is engaged in activities ranging from program administration to instructional design and implementation. She mostly enjoys working with students at clinical sites, directly involved with patients in diagnostic care.
"Sonographers, unlike some other imaging professionals, remain in close contact with their patients throughout the exam. My desire to interact closely with people in a helping capacity, coupled with my curious nature of putting together detailed information, has made sonography an appropriate fit for my personality," Dr. Hancock stated.
Reflecting back, remembering her mother being in and out of the hospital before passing away when she was very young, Dr. Hancock feels a sense of honor to be able to work in the healthcare field. The recipient of several awards throughout her career, including the Distinguished Educator Award from the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), being named Faculty Fellow at Chattanooga State Community College, and earning the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award from League of Innovation, Dr. Hancock also earned two First Place Scientific Presentation Awards from SDMS and was asked to serve on the Sonography MSI Task Force to develop the 2016 Consensus Conference on Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders, due to her musculoskeletal injury (MSI) research.
Married to Rev. Dr. Tom Hancock, she has three sons and three grandchildren, with another on the way. A Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church, she shares a great love for their congregation.
