Shield UI Introduces the All-New TreeMap Widget

Shield UI, a leading UI component vendor, is pleased to announce the fully functional TreeMap Widget for displaying hierarchical data.

SEATTLE, WA, November 26, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Treemaps display hierarchical (tree-structured) data as a set of nested nodes. Each branch of the tree is given a treemap node, which is then tiled with smaller nodes representing sub-branches. Each node's rectangle has an area proportional to a specified dimension on the data. Often the nodes are colored to show a separate dimension of the data.

Among the growing family of visual analytic tools, treemaps are flourishing in organizations that require daily monitoring of complex activities with thousands of products, projects, or salespeople. Tabular reports, bar charts, line graphs, and scattergrams are important tools, but for complex activities where there are numerous sales regions, manufacturing plants, or product lines the hierarchical structures provided by treemaps can be helpful. While tabular displays and spreadsheets can show 30-60 rows at a time on typical displays, the colorful presentations in treemaps can accommodate hundreds or thousands of items in a meaningfully organized display that allows patterns and exceptions to be spotted in seconds.

The Shield UI TreeMap control is an ingenious means of visualizing hierarchic values. Often used to answer important operational and decision making questions of managers from various industries. The Shield UI TreeMap control is naturally applicable to numerous business models and does all this in plain JavaScript and HTML DIV elements. The TreeMap control is fully interactive and customizable.

The basic treemap takes just a few minutes to learn, but there are a wide variety of advanced features that greatly improve the value of treemaps by supporting interactive exploration. The Shield UI TreeMap control allows the application of specific formatting for text, color, value and tooltip, supporting internationalization and custom functions. The treemap algorithm used in the Shield UI TreeMap control is based on the squarified strategy that makes each box as square as possible, however horizontal and vertical layout for data representation can be applied as well. Moreover, the relative weight of hierarchical data relationships can be shown at more than one level with no drilldown required. The Shield UI TreeMap allows to color nodes based on their value within a range scale or group all nodes with a similar value in the same color, making efficient use of space so it can display thousands of tree nodes on screen simultaneously. The widget comes with a rich preset of themes, which cover most visual requirements. This makes it easy for the control to blend with other components on the web page or application.
