DES Action USA Launches "#GivingDuesDay," Joins #GivingTuesday Philanthropic Movement

    NEW YORK, NY, November 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- DES Action, a nonprofit representing the 5 million individuals who have been exposed to the drug DES (Diethylstilbestrol), is joining the global #GivingTuesday movement on 12/1/15 with a related campaign #GivingDuesDay. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

DES Action USA is the national organization for individuals exposed to diethylstilbestrol (DES) the world's first synthetic estrogen, their families and health care providers. DES was prescribed to millions of pregnant women, primarily from 1938 - 1971, with the mistaken belief that the drug prevented miscarriage and ensured a healthy baby. It did neither and instead harmed the mothers who were prescribed it, the children born from of those pregnancies and now possibly their grandchildren and future generations beyond, leaving them with cancers, infertility and other health consequences, often called the DES Tragedy.

The organization is requesting donations of $40 to subsidize a DES Action annual membership for someone -- a DES Mother, Daughter, Son or Grandchild -- in need. "Nearly 20% of our membership can't afford dues. We hope that #GivingDuesDay will inspire people to fund the cost of an annual membership to those affected by the DES tragedy," explains Su Robotti, Executive Director, DES Action USA.
