WILMINGTON, NC, December 18, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Author Norma Jennings has been named as one of 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading in the 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards. Jennings was chosen by public vote from a field of hundreds of authors who appeared on The Authors Show Radio. Winners will appear in this years edition of the book.

Norma Jennings is the author of two highly praised novels, 'Passenger From Greece' and 'Daughter of the Caribbean'. Her novels are inspired by joy, deep concerns and the desire to entertain as well as educate. She writes to broaden the perceptions of those who are not well-traveled, to touch lives with laughter, sadness and joy, and to provide an escape from the drudgery of everyday life. She reaches out to the reader who cannot travel and the reader who just wants to steal away. In her novels, she explores cultural issues, personal relationships, political upheavals, and rich historical backgrounds.

"I wrote Passenger from Greece because I wanted to bring the international and social dilemma of drug trafficking in the Caribbean into the spotlight, while drawing readers in with a captivating story," Jennings stated. "I also wanted to show that family and relationships are the fuel that shape our characters and drive us to make decisions, whether wise of foolish. I'm honored to be an award winner, and this offers me the opportunity to bring the world to more readers, especially to those who love to explore it through books."

With the rising tide of drug trafficking in the Caribbean as the inspiration for her novel, 'Passenger from Greece', Jennings tells an important but also intriguing story of love, lust, and criminal behavior affecting entire countries and destroying lives. While this novel is at its basis a cautionary tale about love-gone-wrong, it also touches on deception at the deepest family level. It explores how familial relationships, flawed characters, secrets and lies can destroy lives and create deeply felt wounds. 'Passenger from Greece' was a finalist in the 2015 USA Best Book Awards in 2 categories: Best Multicultural Fiction and Best Cover Design.

'Daughter of the Caribbean' is a love letter that pays homage to Jennings' birthplace - to the culture and heritage of the exotic, beautiful and conflicting island paradise that is Jamaica. It is an epic story told through the eyes of a Jamaican native, Olivia, who was raised for years by her Jamaican grandmother Sedith on the sprawling estate of Twickenham, where the fruit trees grew plenty and the adventures were grand. The book explores the bonds of family, the value of embracing and understanding one's heritage despite notorious ancestors, and the journey that is life.

Both of her novels have been highly praised by reviewers. One reviewer stated, "Norma creates a living picture of life in Jamaica that is award worthy. Her keen interpretation of time and place is without parallel." Another said, "Norma Jennings writes with such insight, into family dynamics: mother-daughter, and intergenerational relationships that it just about takes your breath away. And the exquisite prose. As an avid Jane Austin fan, intensely fine and precise writing such as we have in 'Passenger from Greece', I would re-read passages: some aloud - just to savor the sound and sensation they made."
