ALPHARETTA, GA, December 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Richard, Administrator at Porter Academy, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Barbara Richard will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.
Maintaining a positive attitude toward people, being able to see the good in all students and children, and truly wanting all children and their families to be happy and successful, Barbara Richard has been able to excel in her field over the course of her career, beginning as a teacher and now as an Administrator at Porter Academy.
Accepting a position with Porter Academy in 2004, a small school for learning differences in Roswell, Georgia, Ms. Richard is Student, Staff and Academic Coordinator, which basically equates to the title of assistant principal in most school settings. Reporting to the head of the school and the assistant director directly, Ms. Richard supervises and evaluates faculty and staff, assists with developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum, and activities while ensuring materials are available, researches and provides professional growth opportunities for staff, provides orientation and assistance for new staff, students, and families, works with families and other schools to ensure appropriate placement for each student leaving Porter Academy, and directs an academic summer program.
"Being an advocate and visionary has also been a big part of my success," Ms. Richard admitted. "Believing that all children can be successful and self-confident when the right support system is in place, being that support system when necessary, and helping families build that support system has been key for me."
Ms. Richard also noted the value of understanding children's developmental stages, the importance of remaining flexible in her role, encouraging teamwork, and focusing on time management so that she could enjoy both her role at work and her family life at home. Following in the footsteps of her father who was also in education, he always encouraged her to do something that she loved and then find a way to get paid for it, so she did.
Earning her degree in 1988, Ms. Richard holds a BA in Elementary Education from St. Michael's College in Vermont. She later earned her Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton.
