OAK LAWN, IL, December 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Heather McCarthy, Author and Co-Founder of Someone Special Uniquely Personalized Books, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Heather McCarthy will be featured in the upcoming edition in 2015/2016.
A tenured middle school teacher for more than 13 years, Heather McCarthy's business as the Owner of Someone Special Uniquely Personalized Books was something that grew out of a necessity. After her daughter had entered school, she wanted to find a way to explain her rare, metabolic condition to her, her classmates, and her teachers. By creating a personalized picture book, she was able to do just that, effectively. The success of the business stemmed from there.
"At Someone Special Books, we create specialized picture books for children with special needs," Mrs. McCarthy said. "We currently have 12 books that can be personalized for children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Diabetes, Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Epilepsy, food allergies, hearing impairments, neurological and muscular disorders, speech impairments, vision impairments, and physical disabilities. We also have a personalized book for children without disabilities who want to learn about acceptance and friendships."
Continually meeting with families and children with special needs to see how she can better meet their needs, Mrs. McCarthy is always ready to create the next book that will work for a specific individual. Currently, she is in talks with families to create a book for those suffering with heart conditions, sensory processing disorders, and for children with cancer.
Contributing her teaching experience, specifically middle school language arts, to her book company's success, Mrs. McCarthy has two children with special needs. Her personal experience has enabled her to empathize with customers, and there is no better relationship than that when it comes to business.
Listed as educational resources by The Epilepsy Foundation, Autism Speaks, and FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education), Someone Special Uniquely Personalized Books received five out of five stars for social emotional needs by Able Play , a toy rating system and website that provides comprehensive information on toy and play products for children of all abilities.
