MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA, January 05, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- January 5, 2016, Steve Kanthan, Senior Expert Capital Productivity of McKinsey & Company has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in lean construction techniques.
Mr. Kanthan has 26 years of professional experience, with three years as a senior expert of capital productivity for McKinsey & Company. Throughout his career, he has set himself apart as an expert in lean construction techniques, offshore and onshore construction, project management, optimization and waste elimination techniques in the construction sector. Each day, he is responsible for focusing on the Asia operations within the oil and gas construction areas, both onshore and offshore.
Mr. Kanthan is also a lecturer in lean construction and offshore oil and gas development in Swinburne University, Melbourne. He has extensive experience in working within a wide variety of fields, including research and design. He is also a specialist in Finite Element analysis, construction, project management and consultancy.
Mr. Kanthan's biggest achievement has been saving almost $300 million AUD for an Australian client when he identified an alternate sub-sea development solution. He would describe himself as a down-to-earth technical expert, who helps clients achieve their goals. His peers and co-consultants often call him the "real expert with no frills." They also say that he is easy to work with and shares his knowledge with no strings attached. Mr. Kanthan's mission in life is to share and propagate knowledge; he is passionate about sharing his skills and helping the younger generation.
Mr. Kanthan has wide hands-on construction experience, as well as a deep theoretical research based experience, which he marries into providing lean construction consultancy services. This hands-on experience, working with laborers and supervisors on the ground and diagnosing areas of improvements, is his forte. He implements the changes in a collaborative fashion with stakeholders.
One of the best lessons that Mr. Kanthan has learned is: "Right or wrong, make a decision. Making no decision is the worst decision."
Mr. Kanthan believes that a major life-changing event for him was when he decided to move from the structural engineering field to the oil and gas construction sector with BHP Petroleum in Melbourne. His first year with BHP Petroleum was so extremely different because he moved from structural engineering to mechanical engineering and marine engineering fields. However, he stuck in there and today, looking back, he's glad he made the decision to change.
Looking back, Mr. Kanthan attributes his success to his experience and knowledge. He became involved in his profession due to a natural progression of opportunities, as well as his desire to expand into optimization areas. The highlight of his career was being recognized by the CEO of a multi-billion dollar EPC contract company as top contributor for lean implementation and savings to bottom line. He also notes that working with McKinsey & Company has been another highlight.
Mr. Kanthan received a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1989 and a Bachelor of Science in engineering and civil engineering from the University of Moratuwa in 1982. He maintains affiliation with Engineers Australia, and he lends financial support to the Red Cross and an orphanage in the Asian region. In years to come, Mr. Kanthan would like to experience continued growth.
