Featured Speakers Announced for 14th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference

Featured speakers for the 14th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference will include internationally-renown historic preservation experts Mark Hall-Patton from "Pawn Stars" and Tom Capp from Gorman & Company, Inc.



    PHOENIX, AZ, January 15, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Featured speakers for the 14th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference that will take place at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Hotel emphasizing the theme "Preservation NEXT" will include internationally-renown historic preservation experts Mr. Mark Hall-Patton from the History Channel's sensation "Pawn Stars" and Mr. Tom Capp, Chief Operating Officer of Gorman & Company, Inc., a leader in real estate development.

Mark Hall-Patton will be the featured speaker at the pre-conference social networking event on Wednesday, June 8, at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Hotel. In addition to his frequent television appearances, Mr. Hall-Patton is the Museum Administrator for the Clark County Museum system, where he oversees the Clark County Museum, the Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum, and the Searchlight History Museum. Prior to that, he was Director of the San Luis Obispo County Historical Museum in California. He has worked for both public and private non-profit museums and has consulted with numerous start-up and established museums and museum boards.

Tom Capp will be the featured speaker at a luncheon on Thursday, June 9, also at the conference hotel. As Chief Operating Officer, Tom Capp has directed Gorman & Company's real estate development since 1994. Under his direction, the company has focused on urban revitalization, mixed-income housing, historic preservation and the preservation of affordable housing. Prior to joining Gorman & Company, Tom was a Senior Associate at Camiros, Inc., an urban planning firm based in Chicago. Tom is a former public official having served as mayor of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, where he also served as chairman of the city's Planning Commission and chairman of its Economic Development Commission.

Praised as one of the finest historic preservation conferences in the United States, this program continues to see participants and featured speakers from around the world congregate in Arizona to learn about state-of-the-art preservation techniques and technology, archaeological advances, legislation, tax benefits, project management, historic homeownership requirements, tribal preservation programs, urban planning, architecture, rehabilitation guidelines, and much more.

The conference is developed by the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office, the Arizona Preservation Foundation, Arizona State Parks, Arizona Main Street, and the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office. This year's conference, "Preservation NEXT" will be conducted in Phoenix, June 8-10, 2016. The goal of the conference is to bring together historic preservationists from around the Southwest to exchange ideas and success stories, to share perspectives and solutions to preservation issues, and to foster cooperation between the diverse Arizona preservation communities.

In 2016, we celebrate several important milestones in the preservation community, such as the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service, the 50th Anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, the 30th Anniversary of the Arizona Site Steward Program, and more. The Arizona Historic Preservation community will reflect on many past accomplishments and challenges to plan for "Preservation Next."

The reduced conference rate is $74.00 per room per night, single or double occupancy, plus tax. A limited number of hotel rooms will be available at this rate and is subject to availability.

Graduate and under-graduate scholarships are also available for full-time students at an Arizona college or university. Recipients of the scholarship for registration fees only must be at least 18 years of age and be enrolled in a field of study that is related to historic preservation.
