Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Terri Davis as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Terri Davis will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.

SASKATOON, SK, January 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Terri Davis, Career Coach at Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Terri Davis will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.

Beginning her career in corrections after studying criminology in college, Terri Davis soon discovered that it was not an ideal fit for her. Gravitating away from her position, she made the intentional decision to work in community based programs. This is where she realized she could help navigate people away from being incarcerated. By 2004, she was again offered a great opportunity to work in the area of career and employment counseling in Calgary, Alberta, and she continued to work in this capacity on and off for the next 11 years. Having since dedicated her life to opening the doors to education and employment, she is maintaining her position as a Career Coach, assisting clients in finding and developing their future career paths in occupations and careers they truly enjoy.

"I facilitate assessments and workshops to help clients in many areas of career and employment," Ms. Davis explained. "I have also worked on creating curriculum material for various programs over the last 10 years. Helping others reach their potential and succeed requires many skills that require a real commitment. Humor is a necessity. Self-confidence and a healthy lifestyle makes the job easier, too. Being the example of what you teach makes for great possibilities."

Ms. Davis is currently a Career Coach at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies. She has previous experience with Statistics Canada as a Field Operations Assistant and Interviewer. She was also a Program Coordinator for YWCA Newcomers to Canada/Diversity WORKS program, as well as a Representative Workforce Coordinator for the Community of Nipawin. She also worked for Canada/Saskatchewan Career Employment. Ms. Davis worked as an Employment Service Assistant Practicum Coordinator for CDI College Calgary City Center. Volunteer wise, she currently serves as a Board Member for the Community Initiatives Fund since 2010, and previously served as a Regional Committee Member for the Department of Social Service Appeal Committee from 2009-12, as a Committee Member for Prince Albert Race Relations and Social Issues Committee from 2009-12, and started her board and community work as a Member of Urban Multi-Purpose Aboriginal Youth Centers from 2000-03. Notably, Ms. Davis was a 2015 recipient of an Excellence Award through WDM.
