Driving drunk is a dangerous decision, and we want to remind everyone that there are safe alternatives to get home after the Big Game.
NORFOLK, VA, January 20, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The two teams battling for the title in professional football's big game have yet to be decided, but personal injury law firm Kalfus & Nachman is already taking steps to help reduce drunk driving accidents in the Hampton Roads area. For the second year, the firm has partnered with Norfolk Black & White Cab Company to offer drivers who drink too much an alternative way to get home safely both on the Southside and the Peninsula.
Taxi service through the Safe Ride Home program will be available Sunday, Feb. 7, from kickoff to midnight. Instead of getting behind the wheel, impaired individuals can request a free cab ride home by calling (757) 855-4444 and asking for the Kalfus & Nachman Safe Ride Home.
Important rules to know about the program include:
- Only adults 21 and older are eligible to participate
- Service is available in Virginia's 757 area code
- Riders must be picked up and dropped off in the same or an adjacent city within the 757 area
- Rides are provided from local restaurants and bars to someone's home only - there are no exceptions
- Service is not guaranteed, although every effort will be made to get each rider home safely
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 10,000 people were killed in accidents involving alcohol in 2014. Drunk driving fatalities tend to rise during the holidays and other times when alcohol consumption increases, including major sporting events.
"Fans need to remember to be responsible," said Paul Hernandez, an attorney at Kalfus & Nachman. "Driving drunk is a dangerous decision, and we want to remind everyone that there are safe alternatives to get home after the Big Game."
