Washington, PhD, Deputy Chief Information Officer and Deputy Director for the United States Department of Agriculture, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field with an Excellence Award through Women of Distinction Magazine. Michele A. Washington will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.
More than 20 years ago, while working as a Computer Programmer, Michele A. Washington began discussing her career aspirations with her mentor. Realizing that information technology would play a significant and crucial role in society in the future and after doing some research, she decided to refine her career goals.
Now serving as the Deputy Chief Information Officer and Deputy Director in the Data and Records Management Division, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Civil Rights, for the United States Department of Agriculture, Dr. Washington has her hands full advising on IT security programs, IT policies, capital planning, records management, and resource issues with regards to the long range strategic and day-to-day operations of the division. She provides overall leadership and direction as the IT Security Program Manager, providing highly seasoned experience for the organization's entire information security program. She also handles multiple division tasks simultaneously, prioritizing and completing assignments within the established deadlines, while achieving quality expectations.

Earning her Doctorate of Philosophy in Information Systems in 2015, Dr. Washington has since published her dissertation, 'Gathering the Requirements for a Mobile Device Tutorial for Older Adults' in 2015. A member of Delta Epsilon Academic Honor Society through Nova Southeastern University, Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church in Bowie, Maryland, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she is also the recipient of a 2010 USDA Secretary's Honor Award for Food Safety and Inspection Service, a group achievement.
