HYATTSVILLE, MD, February 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Authors Christopher and Rachel Mannino will be holding a Female Empowerment Event at Busboys and Poets, a community gathering place where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted, located in Hyattsville, MD. The event entitled Female Empowerment Through Love and Deaths will be held on February 17 from 6:00-7:30PM.
"At the event, we will be discussing strong women in fiction," says Chris. "Are women treated the same as men in the stories we read or watch, and how can we become more aware of cultural bias?"
Christopher Mannino is the author of The Scythe Wielder's Secret, a thrilling young adult fantasy/adventure series. The first two books in the trilogy, School of Deaths and Sword of Deaths, are out now, with the third book Daughter of Deaths expected to be released sometime this year. Reviewers have compared The Scythe Wielder's Secret to Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson. It is recommended for readers who enjoy magical realism, fantasy, paranormal, middle grade, young adult, and/or books with a strong female protagonist.
Rachel Mannino's Love or Justice tells the story of Laurie Shelton, the only person alive who can identify Hawaii's most notorious mob boss. After stumbling into a deadly kidnapping, Laurie's life is in grave danger, and it falls to US Marshal Dante Stark to keep her safe until she testifies. With each choice as dangerous as the next, Dante and Laurie must confront the boundaries of what they're willing to sacrifice, and which is more important...Love or Justice.
Chris and Rachel will read selections from School of Deaths and Love or Justice followed by a signing and an open discussion of female empowerment and strong women in fiction.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place at Busboys and Poets - Hyattsville on Wednesday February 17, 2016 from 6-7:30pm in the Zinn Room. Copies of The Scythe Wielder's Secret series and Love or Justice will be available for purchase during this time.
Busboys and Poets - Hyattsville is located at 5331 Baltimore Ave. Hyattsville, MD 20781. Further information about the cafe can be found at http://www.busboysandpoets.com/about/hyattsville.
