Dr. Feldman shared "Our entire team looks forward to reading each essay, selecting the winners, and meeting them at the award dinner."
TAMPA, FL, February 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Feldman Orthodontics is pleased to announce that its 26th Annual Scholarship Essay Competition-What a Smile Means to Me is underway. This one time scholarship of $1,500 was established to recognize individuals with potential to excel and become a contributing member of our community with the potential to continue with that legacy of service. Two scholarships will be awarded over all.
Dr. Randy Feldman, Chief Smile Officer, values a good education and is always happy to help reduce the financial burden for Tampa Bay's talented senior class. According to Feldman, "Today's college applicants struggle with the decision to financially burden themselves with a costly college education or try to make a living wage with just a high-school diploma."
Two polls released in 2015 reveal just how much college affordability is weighing heavy on our citizens. First, a Gallup survey found that 73 percent of parents with children under the age of 18 worry about paying for college. A second poll, released by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation, found that only 21 percent of Americans believe higher education is affordable.
Dr. Feldman encourages other Tampa Bay individuals and businesses to consider adding a scholarship program to their annual budget to support the efforts of our exceptional local students and their hard-working families. Feldman stated, "Hearing about the accomplishments of past scholarship recipients and the contributions they are making after completing college is superb."
The scholarship application can be downloaded from the Feldman Orthodontics website, and entries are being accepted until March 28 at 11 a.m. Scholarship winners will be chosen from applications of graduating seniors from Hillsborough or Pasco County public high schools.
Looking back on the past 25 years, Dr. Feldman commented "the 50 recipients of our scholarships have provided us a moment to reflect, smile, and celebrate the youth in Tampa Bay."
Among the requirements for this unique annual scholarship are an outstanding essay, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, a minimum SAT score of 1100 or minimum ACT score of 24, letter of recommendation from their school, and letter of acceptance to college or vocational-technical institution.
The two winning essays for 2016 will be proudly displayed on Feldman's website, along with those of all 50 previous winners, and students will receive monetary awards and dinner in their honor on Thursday, April 21.
