SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 19, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the medical marijuana state of California, marijuana was found in drivers which resulted in 1,500 fatalities in the last 5 years. Nationally, in the 23 states and D.C. with state-approved medical marijuana, there were more than 1,000 fatalities in the single year of 2014.

"Anyone who says marijuana is a harmless drug is blowing smoke!" said Al Crancer, Jr. a retired NHTSA researcher, "Many of these fatalities were caused by Medical Marijuana being wrongly prescribed, and mislabeled as to potency". Further, incomplete labeled marijuana products regarding avoiding operating vehicles as required with other prescribed drugs, and the onset and duration of the hallucinogenic effects, puts the entire public at risk due to marijuana drivers being on the roadways.

Normally any drug with so many deaths, injuries and associated problems would be pulled from the market by the Food and Drug Administration. However, "medical" marijuana in California is not by prescription. It is a "recommendation" by a provider and not a prescription, thus skirting the penalties for sharing or selling a prescription drug or medicine. We believe that the strict laws for prescription drugs including Medical Marijuana must be enforced along with swift law enforcement assessment to protect the safety and security of the American public.

The increased legalization of marijuana for recreational use, along with the present Medical Marijuana problem will cause a tidal wave of motor vehicle and other fatalities and injuries and soon rival alcohol as the No.1 traffic safety problem.
