Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Linda Maccariella as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    PHILADELPHIA, PA, February 27, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Linda Maccariella, Retired Senior Career Teacher and ESL Teacher, School District of Philadelphia, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional with an Excellence Award in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Linda Maccariella will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

Over the course of Linda Maccariella's 32-year career in education, she worked as an ESL Teacher, Small Learning Community Coordinator, Voyager Reading Coach, Program Support Teacher, and Instructional Support Teacher. She also mentored teachers in need of training in best practices and interventions for at-risk students.

"I believe that teaching is more of an art than a science," Maccariella said, who has since retired from the classroom. "A teacher who is an artist can take advantage of teachable moments that are not in the lesson plan. Each student is special in some way and it should be every teacher's goal to find that area in which that student can shine."

Following Maccariella's retirement in 2004, she worked as an Independent Contractor providing staff development for Training, Learning, and Consulting. She also taught ESL to adults at Northeast High School and Spanish to healthcare workers. Maccariella also authored a parent guide to early literacy for which she earned a copyright from the Library of Congress.

Maccariella earned her BS in Secondary Education and English in 1970 and became Certified in Spanish K-12 in 1972 at West Chester University. She earned her MEd in Bilingual Counseling Psychology in 1986 at Temple University.
