LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL, February 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Artist and Rotarian George Lewis' paintings are featured in a new book "Oil 4 Water" by Olmstead Publishing. His paintings have been sold and shipped all over the world, one having brought in over $6,000 at a humanitarian fundraising event.
The 80 page book displays 27 of his pieces of art and 18 photographs of water deprived people. Rotarians buying or winning paintings, and villagers with the wells, water filters, toilets, and sinks provided by the oil paintings. The softbound 8" x 10" collection of Lewis' paintings includes information on polio eradication and water and sanitation concerns and grants he has supported since 2006 after a trip to a village in Guatemala.
"People who buy the book or my paintings get the extra satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to make the world a better place," stated The WaterMan. Lewis has helped to supply clean drinking water to over 2,000,000 less fortunate people in 37 countries since 2006. Many Rotary clubs have used the funds to assist in the global effort to Help End Polio.
The gifted octogenarian enrolled in his first painting class in 2002. Lewis uses only a palette knife to create the textured and bold paintings of floral landscapes, seascapes, boats, and house paintings.
Lewis graduated from Wagner College and earned a master's degree from Rutgers University. After college, He played professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization. Lewis is in the Wagner College, Union County, and Rahway High School baseball Halls of Fame. He then had a career as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch.
Rotarian Lewis is a member of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch in District 6960 Zone 34. He and his wife, Nancy, are Paul Harris Fellows and Rotary International Major Donors. Lewis is also in the Paul Harris Society and the Rotary Foundation awarded him the prestigious honor "Citation For Meritorious Service."
