"We are excited about the RCT, as a surgeon this is a device I have seen a need for some time," said Dr. Harrison Lazarus, CEO of Lazarus Medical Technologies.
BALTIMORE, MD, March 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Shamus Carr, a Thoracic Surgeon at the University of Maryland, Hospital, successfully used the Repositionable Chest Tube (RCT) and eliminated the need for multiple procedures with added risk and cost.
The patient presented with a massive hemothorax after falling on a cruise ship. It was determined the patient needed immediate surgery. Dr. Carr decided it was best for the patient to receive the RCT and potentially eliminate the need for multiple tubes placed during this patient's hospital stay. The nurses appreciated they had less to deal with post operatively. The tube was repositioned from lateral to posteriorly on the 2nd post- operative day. The repositioning caused minor momentary discomfort. With the tube moved to the posterior position, another 300 to 350 ml of fluid was drained. The total postoperative drainage was 600 to 650 ml. On the 5th post-operative day, the tube was repositioned anteriorly with no pain and no additional drainage. An additional benefit to not using multiple tubes is that the patient only requires one Pleurovac so nurses have less to deal with post-operatively.
"The Repositionable Chest Tube presents an incredible opportunity to improve patient care and reduce health care cost," says Dr. Carr. "The RCT helps the nurses post operatively manage the patient and not worry about repeat procedures involving placement of multiple chest tubes. This is a significant benefit to the medical staff as well as the patient."
The "Fixed Placement" paradigm of commodity chest tubes is no longer your only choice. RCT now offers the option of repositioning a full 270 degrees to remove unwanted fluid, all at the twist of a knob. The RCT may reduce the need for multiple catheter insertions and reduce hospital stay time by permitting the Healthcare Provider to simply reposition the catheter to where the fluid is located leading to faster and more efficient fluid evacuation.
"We are excited about the RCT, as a surgeon this is a device I have seen a need for some time," said Dr. Harrison Lazarus, CEO of Lazarus Medical Technologies.
"Repeat procedures often affect patient outcomes, comfort and cost. RCT was repositioned within the thoracic cavity to more efficiently clear the pleural space of unwanted fluid reducing pain, suffering, and cost.. With the RCT we provide a better solution."
Lazarus Medical Technologies, LLC (LMT) has completed development of a propriety, leading edge, chest drainage system called the Repositionable Chest Tube (RCT). The Technology is highly differentiated relative to current commercially available products and the company expects it to show superiority in removing unwanted fluid from the chest cavity in terms of efficiency and speed relative to current devices.
