Watch: First Glimpse of Caihong City, a Science Fiction Fairy Tale About Glitches, Unicorns and Filth in a Language You've never Heard Before

    NEW YORK, NY, March 10, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- These are snippets from an ambitious independent feature film made by a team of independent artists from over forty different countries that premiered in New York at the Philip K Dick Film Festival where audiences heard a new language that was created for the film. The Trailer won "Best Trailer" that night and was awarded "Trailer of the Month" at 12 Months Film Festival as well as nominated for "Best Trailer" at the Transilvania Shorts Competition.

Caihong--"The Rainbow City"-- is set in a twisted jungle of disorienting sectors, suffering peoples, and outlandish inhabitants. One of these inhabitants is the dying Chinese genius, Liu Junjie, who has been tasked with creating a perfect map of Caihong City. It is an impossible mission, and completing it would grant Junjie access to the neighboring utopia --where lies his last chance of survival. However, a glitch appears in his map-making program. With the help of two unlikely friends, a crazy homeless Russian and a depressed Romanian prostitute, Liu Junjie ventures inside the city's labyrinth to find out what - or who - the glitch is.

A review from SSN Insider said, "Caihong City is a beautiful dystopian urban-scape embossed with dreamy tints and ghostly glitches. It melds The Matrix's concept of a hidden world in plain sight with designs reminiscent of Tim Burton's 9 and overtones of Alfonso Cuaron's Pan's Labyrinth. The concept of a struggling lower-class living in a slum world yearning to enter the upper-class parallel world reminds us of In Time, Total Recall, and Elysium, and the artistic design truly stands out."

Florina Titz, the director, said that she wanted the characters in the film to be "so disastrously imperfect that they would flaunt their flaws like superpowers." Florina also directed "Trip" (2008), a Romanian award-winning "queer cult" feature film. When asked about the creative decision to have the film in an invented language, Florina said, "I think real science-fiction fans will especially appreciate the necessity of creating a new language for a new world." Florina referred the movie to "the ultimate foreign film" since no matter where it plays it will always have to be subtitled.

So when can we see this dystopian science fiction fairy tale? Ye Zhu, Chinese producer and post-production supervisor of Caihong City said, "After the successful WIP screening at UnionDocs, our amazing post production team continued working diligently to achieve our ultimate creative vision and we strive to bring audience a unique viewing experience." The test screening attracted a full house with a mix of investors, producers, filmmakers and hardcore sci-fi fans. Ye also moderated a vibrant and productive feedback session that lasted until almost midnight. "It was both nerve-wracking and exciting to see how people reacted to our film." she said, "We gained a lot of valuable insights about what worked and what didn't. We can't wait for the movie to be out!"
