CLEVELAND, OH, March 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Attorneys at The Eisen Law Firm greatly value honest debate about medical malpractice and patient safety. They also greatly value today's students, as among those students are tomorrow's leaders, including those who will help eliminate costly, preventable medical errors. The firm encourages students to hone their strengths and increase public awareness of medical malpractice and the importance of the legal profession. By providing young adults with opportunities to get involved at an early age, The Eisen Law Firm hopes to spark a passion in Ohio students that drives them to make a difference in their future.
Recently, the firm created a scholarship available to graduating high school seniors in the Cleveland area. Applicants were asked to create a short video, 1-2 minutes in length, responding to one of the following prompts:
1. Medical malpractice lawyers are often the butt of jokes. Tell us your favorite lawyer joke. Then tell us why it isn't funny.
2. In Shakespeare's "Henry VI," Dick the Butcher says, "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers." Why might that be a bad idea for the future quality of health care?
The videos were judged by the firm on creativity and content. A high school senior attending Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Kaleigh Dixon, chose to address the latter of the two prompts. Kaleigh's insightful video addressed essential topics surrounding the importance of medical malpractice. A quote from Kaleigh's project includes, "Doctors are the third leading cause of death in the United States. If we kill all the lawyers off, medical malpractice has the potential to increase mortality rates." Kaleigh goes on to explain the purpose of lawyers in the medical system and their key role in ensuring the accountability of medical professionals.
Kaleigh's submission earned her a $500 scholarship, awarded by The Eisen Law Firm, to assist her in the transition to college. "Our goal is to get students - our future leaders -- thinking about advocacy and the critical role lawyers play in advancing patient safety," remarked attorney Brian Eisen, "We value their passion for helping us raise awareness through this scholarship program."
