Police Unable to Stop DUI Drivers with Arrests Dropping 26% and DUI Fatalities Stuck at 30% for the Last 15 Years

    SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Drunk drivers are avoiding police and ignoring the legal limit with 67% of the DUI drivers obviously impaired at twice the BAC limit. With 10,000 deaths yearly, bystanders are not intervening to stop the obviously impaired drivers from driving.

"The only solution is for bystanders to intervene and not ride with or let drive obviously DUI drivers," says Alfred Crancer, former NHTSA researcher.

A disease prevention approach having bystanders intervene with the worst of the DUI drivers, the 67% "Double Drunk" DUI at twice the BAC limit, could save thousands of lives each year:
2,000 lives could be saved if only 30% of bystanders intervened & stopped the Double Drunk.
1,600 lives could be saved if passengers who rode with the fatal Double Drunk DUI intervened.
900 lives could be saved if passengers wouldn't ride with the Double Drunk Driver.

Half of fatal crashes were 9pm to 3am. Of the DUI drivers, 72% were in single vehicles, 80% male, 61% unrestrained, and 48% speeding.
