VANCOUVER, BC, April 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Art! Vancouver is proud to announce that Nanaimo-based artist Majie Lavergne will be exhibiting at Art! Vancouver 2016, Western Canada's international art fair.
Majie's father, Robert Lavergne, a well-recognized post-impressionist painter, fostered his love for painting at an early age.
For fifteen years, Majie made documentary films in New York and Los Angeles. He then felt the need to re-connect with the painter within and studied for his Masters in Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counselling.
His fascination for abstract art was fostered by the work of Louis Nallard, his Godfather and a pioneer of the French lyrical abstract movement.
Majie now focuses his practice on both Abstract painting and Interactive Art.
Majie's interest in Interactive Art stems from his lifelong fascination for any art form that challenges the rigid boundary between 'the artist' and the 'viewer'. He is enlivened when the 'viewer' becomes part of the creative process and influences the outcome.
Majie will be exhibiting his work Re-Create at Art! Vancouver 2016, an important work in his interactive series. Re-Create challenges the traditional boundary between 'artist' and 'audience'. It invites the 'viewer' to create their own composition by physically moving various shapes on a background. The variety of configurations are only limited to one's own imagination. Re-Create is not only a visual artwork but also a therapy tool; it is a resource to lessen stress, elicit creativity, interaction, and play.
Majie's work has been exhibited in Paris, France, as well as across North America.
Attend Art! Vancouver 2016, from May 26 to May 29 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, to interact with Re-Create and many of Majie's other works.
