Beth plays the gutsy PA to a rock star, but thinks she's the boss!
NEW YORK, NY, April 12, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Special guest actress Beth Newbery is once again acting in an evening of theatre for the new production of 'Pressure -NOT ME!' Award winning Director Laurie Rae Waugh directs Beth's latest acting role as a PA to a young rock star. This project is one that Beth is very proud to be a part of as a percentage of profit will help to support a child's education in Africa.
The production at the Royal Theatre, Manhattan is an engaging theatre event on the subject of Pressure in relationships written by both new and experienced writers.
After years as an actor Beth began exploring directing, and her work in both disciplines has been seen in many great venues including the famous Rose Theatre in London and the West End's Lyceum theatre where she directed for an event called 'Heroes.' Since moving to New York she has garnered praise for her achievements in performance mentoring as well as acting in some extremely daring scenes. Her one-woman show Undone is now in post production as a feature film.
So what's her main advice for anyone wanting to be an actor?
"Understand that you are the business. You are the one who makes it happen. You're creative also, so make sure you keep it enjoyable by keeping yourself busy, surrounding yourself with people who understand and are supportive, not jealous of your endeavours."
When asked about her experience in Tanzania, Africa Beth said "I founded a company in the UK after spending time in Arusha, and attending a TED conference. I was a host in a documentary on the Maasai culture. The main message being that theatre derived from early cultures, from community and that it is still such an important way to deal with social issues, to highlight messages that can enrich our culture today. I had worked on two amazing productions based on true stories which gave me such a awarding experience."
Beth has coached comedians and actors on Broadway and TV; always with the aim of bringing out the best in people's own abilities and inspiring people in the arts. Her own inspiration began with an hour long meeting at Paramount Studio with actor Sidney Poitier. Beth has met and worked with some well known people including Rachel Weisz, Cuba Gooding Jr., Anna Friel, Steven Spielberg and Christopher Eccleston, who could not help but admire how a young girl, one of seven, from a Devon farming background achieved so much!
"Many of us love the thought of acting, lets face it, it's a great career, right? However, many leave training without fully grasping the hard work, dedication and drive it takes as well as the talent. But if you enjoy the work you are doing, then you are able to simply keep going. It can be really tough out there, and for many the stress is overwhelming." Beth says she simply loves what she does.
So what's next? "I have two films in the pipeline, two festivals with a great new piece of writing and I am taking up the offer of a new travel series next year! " Recently Beth was asked to do a reading for the Broadway Director/ Producer of Ghost Guy Shahar, but had prior work commitments back in the UK.
Beth is currently enjoying her passion for theatre. In 'Pressure- NOT ME' she plays the gutsy personal assistant to a rock star in the play Stella by Jillian Hite. "She has known Stella since she was a child and has seen the whole story, warts and all. She thinks of herself as the boss...which suits me!"
