Maria Elena Gordon received a Good Conduct Medal from the U.S. Marine Corps, as well as an overseas ribbon. She maintains affiliation with Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Texas Parent Teacher Association. Maria Elena Gordon was the first PTA President at William C. Herrera Elementary School and is a current member of the Social Justice in Education Task Force sponsored by the National Federation of Teachers.
