Shield UI Introduces the Dynamic TreeView Widget

Shield UI, a leading UI component vendor, is pleased to announce the fully functional TreeView Widget for displaying any sort of hierarchy.

SEATTLE, WA, May 04, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A tree view is a graphical control element that presents information in a hierarchical view. Each item (also called a node) can have a number of sub items. This is often visualized by indentation in a list. A node can be expanded in order to reveal sub items, and respectively collapsed to hide sub items.

Tree views can be seen in file manager applications, where they facilitate navigation of the file system directories. They are also used to present hierarchical data, such as the structure of an XML document.

Tree view controls are frequently employed in personal information managers. When an outline node is selected, the content associated with the node appears in an adjacent part of the application, so that the content can be organized according to the categories and sub-categories of the outline node.

The ShieldUI TreeView widget completely redefines the look and feel of a standard TreeView node. Utilization of custom made templates provides a unique appearance for each node, enabling full control of user interface. The ShieldUI TreeView uses an Unordered List HTML element to define the nodes in the tree and their properties such as expanded, icon CSS class and others. The flexible node layout architecture permits the nesting of tree nodes to any arbitrary depth, and even to include multiple kinds of child tree nodes.

Tree view controls are very common in applications where any sort of hierarchy needs to be presented to a user. Usually, the nature of such a hierarchy requires that it can be easily reorganized. The Shield UI TreeView widget delivers hierarchical navigation with drag-and-drop and supports check-box selection of whole subtrees. It allows dragging and dropping nodes within the TreeView, or across several different Shield UI TreeView components. This functionality can be extended to drag and drop TreeView items into regular HTML elements.

The built-in checkbox support allows TreeView nodes to come with their own checkbox elements in order to indicate selection, without the need to create a customized template. On each checkbox click, the states of the children and the parent nodes can be automatically synchronized. This demo shows a ShieldUI TreeView component with checkboxes for each node.

The data in a Shield UI TreeView component can be loaded only when needed, rather than at once. The load-on-demand feature of the widget increases performance by only having a node load when its children are expanded. Furthermore, with its rich client-side API, the TreeView component can be easily modified in JavaScript. A lot of client-side interactivity can be added by means of API methods and events that allow alteration of the TreeView as needed. Last but not least, the ShieldUI TreeView component is also offered for various server-side platforms like ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC and JAVA Apache Wicket.
