It's amazing the kind of magic that can happen when you have a consistent group of collaborators at your side
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 19, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Every year, thousands of artists from around the globe flock to LA, only to discover that pursuing a job in "the industry" doesn't guarantee that their dreams will come true. Nightpantz, a digital sketch collaborative based in Los Angeles, is changing that by successfully giving artists opportunities to be seen and heard. Since their conception in 2015, the growing team of writers, actors and filmmakers have produced and released 25 sketches and two shorts, and have had their work featured on Huffington Post, Funny or Die, ABC7 News, LAist and the Los Angeles Times.
The quantity and high quality of their work is only a part of what makes Nightpantz special. The real beauty of the 'Pantz is that anyone with talent who shows up and works hard can join, which has led to the formation of a diverse group that is breaking down the barriers of the traditional Hollywood gatekeepers. Each production is an opportunity for writers, actors, and filmmakers to come together and create something from nothing: to practice, learn, play, imagine, and hone their skills.
The mastermind behind this seemingly simple, yet extremely unique and in-demand idea, is Tim Lacatena. Tim is an actor who has trained at The William Esper Studio in New York, Playhouse West and the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles. He has gone on over 1000 auditions since moving to La La Land, and has landed several supporting roles such as Step Up with Channing Tatum, The Frozen Ground with Nicholas Cage, and House of Lies with Kristen Bell. Tim has also trained as a ballet dancer at The School of American Ballet in New York and The Royal Ballet School in London. Though Tim was making waves in his own acting career, his thirst for a creative outlet wasn't being quenched. A late night UCB improv class, a pair of regularly worn sweatpants, and a determination to bring all the crazy, talented, hungry and ambitious artists he knew together inspired Tim to create Nightpantz. "It's amazing the kind of magic that can happen when you have a consistent group of collaborators at your side," says Lacatena.
Nightpantz aims to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter in order to produce a fresh season of sketches and short films. Although Nightpantz is based in Los Angeles, their Kickstarter rewards will help artists around the country be a part of their community. Kickstarter is the perfect platform for the 'Pantz due to their shared emphasis on bringing a sense of community to their accomplishments.
Nightpantz's goal allows for a modest budget for each sketch, about 30 total. When the amount pledged exceeds $10,000, the number of sketches produced will grow. The more sketches produced, the more artists are given an opportunity to create. Nightpantz will also work on a quick turn-around time in order to feed hungry audiences around the world their regular doses of comedy.
