Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Sonya Yvonne Mayers as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    BURLINGTON, NJ, May 30, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sonya Yvonne Mayers, Owner of Footsteps of a Nurse, LLC, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Sonya Yvonne Mayers will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.

Established in 2016, Nurse and Owner of Footsteps of a Nurse, Sonya Yvonne Mayers, is dedicated to providing products to nurses that focus on relaxation and time for themselves. The company provides products to nurses that focus on relaxation and time for themselves.

"I was inspired to start a business focused on relaxation for nurses after my limited ability to walk made me realize how much we, as nurses, take our feet for granted," Mayers said, noting that she had to put an end to her very active career on her feet in nursing after suffering a bulging and herniated disc in her back.

Mayers simultaneously manages wellness clinics in New Jersey, where she teaches, does accounting work, takes inventory, administers vaccinations, and makes various critical decisions in the field. The success of these clinics is contingent on the execution of her tasks.

"The versatility and the many hallmarks of autonomous practices have kept me anchored in my career," Sonya added about staying committed to the healthcare field.

Making monthly visits to a nursing home, Mayers provides social and spiritual support to residents. For the past eight years she has been visiting a former patient with a debilitating disease. Unfortunately, she just passed away, but Mayers will continue to offer support to the family, who has become like family t her. In her spare time, she's affiliated with Nurse Entrepreneur, where members provide online support avenues for nurses. She also volunteers with The Healthy Living Ministry through her church, providing first aid to the congregation and participating in community health fairs.

Recently, Mayers authored her first book, entitled 'Footsteps of a Nurse: Weekly Meditation'. The book combines medical facts with spiritual truths. She also combines her love for travel with her passion for missions to eight countries. Published through Vervante, she has been hosting book signing at Jesus Book and Gift Stores in Green Brook and Iselin, New Jersey. The book is on the shelves in these stores and can also be found on Amazon.

Mayers earned her ASN in her home country of Barbados, followed by her BA in Religious Education at The United Christian College. She is a Registered Nurse and holds several certifications in her field. Beginning her career in pediatrics as a staff nurse on a medical unit there, she continued on in the United States caring for children undergoing open heart surgery, kidney transplants, and liver transplants. She then worked in peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, became a school nurse for developmentally and physically challenged children, spent time in homecare as a field nurse supervisor, followed by several years in a nursing home as a staff nurse. She also taught 72-hour home health aide courses and supervised clinicals and worked in an inpatient hospice unit as a staff nurse before ultimately transitioning to servicing influenza clinics.

Additionally, Mayers holds a certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education from Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey and is a Travel Agent with Ministry Travel, LLC.
