Children's Healing Center To Hold Summer Camps For Children With Weak Immune Systems

    GRAND RAPIDS, MI, June 09, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Based in the Children's Healing Center's state-of-the-art facility, these weeklong day camps will offer an opportunity for sick kids to get out of the house and interact with other kids in a safe, clean environment. Themes for each week were developed by the Center's child development and education team with an eye to mingling education, fun, movement and hands-on activities.

"When kids have weakened immune systems, they often can't leave their homes for fear of getting sick - so it can be difficult for them to do the things so many kids take for granted," said Amanda Winn, CHC executive director and founder. "Our summer camps are going to be a super fun way for these kids to get out of the house, have something to look forward to and, most importantly, connect with other kids and enjoy a summer camp experience."

The summer camps include:
• S for SUMMER! (June 13 - 17): During each day, campers will explore a new activity that begins with the letter "S," including "sculptures," "squirt-gun painting" and a visit from comic book "super heroes"
• A Week at the Farm (June 27 - July 1): Kids will learn about what life is like on a farm and have the chance to interact with farm animals, including a duck, rabbit, calf and horse
• Constructivists (July 11 - 15): This building and design camp will give kids an opportunity to test their creativity while building with blocks, pipes and Legos taught by construction manager Kyle Kuipers
• Adventure Camp (July 25 - 29): Kids will bring the outdoors inside while learning about nature and camping
• Fun-O-Lympics (August 8 - 12): Campers will light the torch and participate in the CHC's version of the Olympics, which will feature new and creative sports and games

The camps will be held on from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of their respective weeks. Attendees are welcome to come the entire week or pick and choose days according to their schedules.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the camps are free and open to children with compromised immune systems and their siblings who are ages 3 to 12. Registration is required and must be completed by 5 p.m. two days prior to the start of each camp session.
