LAWRENCE, KS, June 15, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Callahan Creek Director of Social & Emerging Media Ben Smith, has been invited to the White House to participate in the commencement of the 2016 National Week of Making.
Smith will represent the state of Kansas at the White House at a special meeting of individuals from around the country who lead efforts to empower, support and inspire makers on June 17. The gathering will preview Nation of Maker events and help kick off the National Week of Making. The group will then attend the National Maker Faire held at the University of the District of Columbia on June 18.
"It's an incredible opportunity for me to network with leaders of the Maker movement," said Smith. "I'm very excited to share what we do in Lawrence, and bring back new ideas to further expand the opportunity and impact of the Maker movement in our local schools, businesses and community."
Smith has been recognized locally and nationally for his efforts to empower creative thinking and the use of advanced technology in both the public and private sectors. He created ConfabuLarryum, Lawrence's Festival of Making & Creativity in 2013. The annual free event, presented in partnership between the Lawrence Public Schools and Callahan Creek, celebrates the power of making and creativity, with many interactive activities and workshops for both kids and adults.
"We're so proud of Ben," said Callahan Creek's President and CEO, Chris Marshall. "He's at the heart of Callahan Creek's vision of being a Community of Thinkers & Makers. This trip represents another big step to push us and our clients ahead into new territories."
