Anniversary of Cynthia Scott as the First White Beauty Contestant Invader

Cynthia Scott, a former Ray Charles Raelette, found proof of removed historical newspaper documentation of her standing on the podium as one of the winners in the previous all white beauty pageant on June 29th, 1969.

"(Cynthia) has a riveting story to tell... anybody that sees or hear it will (never) forget." Austin Pendleton - Drama Desk and OBIE Award winning director,

NEW YORK, NY, June 15, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- June 29, 2016 marks the 47th anniversary of the first invasion of the institution that imposed the idea of beauty - the American beauty pageant. El Dorado, Arkansas was the place and Cynthia Scott was the black beauty. Scott challenged the status quo of American glamour by simply registering to compete in the annual Miss El Dorado Beauty pageant. An unprecedented upset followed when Cynthia won 2nd runner-up! The triumph of Cynthia Scott - in a small, rural, Southern town at the height of the Civil Rights Movement - was akin to Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon July 20 (Cynthia Scott's birthday!) that year.

Ms. Scott was just trying to make a difference, awakening consciences and opening hearts, by opening doors. Her incendiary triumph is conveniently missing from the El Dorado newspaper microfilm and library archives. But providence preserved the proof in a scrapbook clipping from an elderly white woman, now deceased, that made its way back to Ms. Scott. Read the whole story here.

Cynthia Scott is still making a difference as a performing artist. This former backup singer for Ray Charles penned and performs One Raelette's Journey, an award-winning monodrama on her world travels and experience working with a musical legend. Austin Pendleton, actor and Drama Desk and OBIE Award winning director said, "(Cynthia) has a riveting story to tell... anybody that sees it will (never) forget."

Her soon to be released single, "Hold On Stay Strong," and her last CD, Dream For One Bright World address many issues. In her song, Did I Know You was featured in the New York Times.

Cynthia Scott will be in concert on June 19, 2016 (Father's Day) at Riverbank Park in NYC. It's a free concert open to the public and will feature Jeb Patton on piano, Ed Cherry on guitar, Paul Beaudry on bass and Dwayne Cook Broadnax on drums.
