Industry Experts Magazine Selects Vance Thomas as a Distinguished Professional in His Field

    POMONA, CA, July 09, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Vance Thomas, Journeyman Lineman for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union #47, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in his field through Industry Experts Magazine. Vance Thomas will be featured in Industry Experts Magazine in 2016.

Beginning his career in electrical work 40 years ago, Vance Thomas spent time in Local Unions #323, 222, 1245, and 47, and served as Recording Secretary for Local #222 in Florida for four years. For the past year, he has been with Local #47 out of Pomona, California, as a Journeyman Lineman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
Employed with the worldwide organization all these years, Thomas values the work ethic and sense of family he feels while working on the job.

"IBEW has a fantastic group of professionals, giving us all a feeling of camaraderie at work," Thomas said. "Risking our lives on the job every day, we take what we do very seriously. But we also have a lot of fun, too. They are all like family to me."

Vance's job certainly keeps him on his toes at all times, but he also keeps things in perspective. By working alongside his colleagues to make peoples' lives easier by continuously making sure their electricity is flowing within their homes and places of employment, is a very rewarding, but also very risky profession. On any given day, he'll work to replace existing or erecting new power lines and related equipment, which is typically energized with at least 12,000 volts AC. Working either from aerial basket equipment or on the pole or structure with the proper climbing equipment, he also builds substations and works in underground vaults.

The seventh member of his family to achieve Journeyman Lineman status, Thomas was initially inspired to work in the field by his uncle back in 1976, a former general foreman who, at the time, oversaw approximately 50 men.

Thomas attended Indian River Community College where he earned his AA in 1971 and also attended University of Florida where he is still an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
