PARK FOREST, IL, July 16, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Crystal A. Williams, MA, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Family Hugs, Inc., has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Crystal A. Williams, MA, will be featured in Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016.
A former nurse of 30 years, most of which was spent in pediatrics and in schools, Crystal A. Williams, MA found herself finding a stronger will to promote and teach health education. This dream of hers finally came true through the formation of her non-profit organization, Family Hugs, Inc., which was established in 2015. Today, she is focusing her energy by serving as Founder and CEO, marketing and reaching out to the community to help her organization to continuously grow and thrive.
"The need is growing as we see and hear about more children being put on daily medications and the increase of violence in schools and in our neighborhoods," Williams noted about one portion of her organization's focus, "and many parents are not aware of how the home environment reflects on their children's behaviors outside the home. I believe I am making a difference in these families lives by teaching them how to relate and communicate better with their children."
Family Hugs, Inc.'s mission is to educate parents on how to better understand babies' cries and cues, educate teachers, parents, and churches on students with special needs, help teenagers with children to continue living their lives, promote developmental growth for adults to communicate better with their children, and promote immunization awareness for family members.
As a Certified Health and Parenting Educator and Speaker of more than 5 years, and a Licensed Practical Nurse for 30 years, Williams offers a number of private, one-on-one workshops at Family Hugs, Inc., including parenting classes for new teenage mothers, health and wellness classes to promote health education on topics such as epilepsy, diabetes, and HIV, a stay-in-school support mentorship to help students stay in school and reach their goals, and substance abuse counseling and prevention. Although her business is a not-for-profit, Williams charges a nominal fee for services in order to provide the necessary supplies for her workshops.
In addition to her experience in nursing, Williams also spent six years as a Substance Abuse Counselor, which greatly benefits her ability to reach out to parents today through her non-profit in regards to helping them deal with custody or bonding issues due to their use of drugs or alcohol.
Currently active as a member of National Association of Professional Women and Illinois Black Association, Williams also serves as an advocate for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago and is on the advisory board for A Caring Hand Foundation. She also holds an AA in Psychology through Harold Washington College, a BA in Human Development through North Park University, and a MA in Professional Studies through DePaul University, and an Addiction Studies and Counseling Certificate through New Hope School of Counseling.
