Karl Truman Law Office Now Investigating Essure Birth Control Implant Cases

    LOUISVILLE,, KY, July 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Karl Truman Law Office announced Monday that it is now reviewing claims from women who have suffered life-altering complications after receiving the Essure permanent birth control implant. Thousands of complaints to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cite a number of serious side effects stemming from implantation of the device, including perforation of the fallopian tube and uterine walls, allergic reactions, hair loss, autoimmune disease and more.

"We're accepting these cases because we want to help women who suffered serious harm because of a bad medical device," said Karl Truman, principal attorney at the Karl Truman Law Office. "The complications caused by Essure are a devastating blow to women and their families, and our firm is committed to pursuing justice for those who have been hurt."

The FDA approved Essure in 2002 as a less invasive alternative to tubal ligation surgery. The device consists of a small metal coil that is implanted in the fallopian tube. The coil gradually creates a barrier of tissue that blocks fertilization of the egg.

Should the implant become dislodged, however, it can migrate to the uterus, causing pelvic pain and damage to reproductive organs. Many women who suffered reproductive complications required emergency hysterectomy surgery to remove the implant, along with other side effects.

In a video on the firm website, Truman said that women bringing legal action claim not only that the device was dangerous but that Bayer, the manufacturer of Essure, "knew about the adverse side effects but concealed them from the public." Women who suffered complications as a result of Essure may be entitled to compensation for the injuries they suffered and the costs of surgery, hospitalizations and other medical treatment.
