It's really important for us to preserve this living history that we have, to be able to enjoy our veterans' stories.
LOUISVILLE, KY, August 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Karl Truman Law Office announced Thursday that it is sponsoring tickets for four veterans of World War II to take to the skies on a B-25 bomber for a special dinner recognizing their service. The B-25 Flightless Dinner for WWII Veterans is hosted by Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter, a nonprofit volunteer organization that holds events throughout Kentucky paying tribute to America's veterans.
"It's really important for us to preserve this living history that we have, to be able to enjoy our veterans' stories," said Karl Truman, principal attorney at the Karl Truman Law Office. "My father was a World War II veteran, so listening to his stories was always very meaningful."
John Baker Wheatley Jr., a World War II veteran living in the Louisville area, is one of the four veterans the Karl Truman Law Office is sponsoring for the flight. He recently expressed his gratitude in a video on the firm's Facebook page.
"Thank you, Karl Truman, for picking me [as] one of four to fly in the big bomber out over Louisville, Kentucky," he said in the video. "It's a very happy moment for me."
The B-25 will take off from hangar 5 at Bowman Field in Louisville at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12. The flight will be followed by a reception featuring music performed by the singing troupe Ladies for Liberty, as well as a guest speaker appearance by Brian Duffy, commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Veterans of World War II and a guest eat for free at the Flightless Dinner after the reception.
The Karl Truman Law Office and Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter are co-sponsoring the display of the B-25 aircraft. First deployed during World War II, this medium bomber has become an icon of American military history.
Truman said that the B-25 Flightless Dinner for WWII Veterans represents an opportunity to celebrate the people who made that history - and the future of America - possible.
"So many of the freedoms that we have today are directly attributable to the sacrifices our veterans made," he said. "It's important that we honor them while we still can."
