McDuffee Leads Stop Alzheimer's Now Walk in Minnesota

    MINNEAPOLIS, MN, August 16, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shaun McDuffee, Senior Vice President of North Star Resource Group and Founder of Stop Alzheimer's Now, led the non-profit organization's eighth walk from July 23rd through July 25th in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. Founded in 2013, Stop Alzheimer's Now (SAN) has committed to walking a total of 3,652 miles across the United States to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease and Dementia.

McDuffee and a group of fellow North Star financial advisors have completed 8 walks across 12 states since 2013, resulting in over 700 miles walked to date. Motivated by loved ones suffering from the disease and the caregivers supporting them, SAN is committed to raising funds to dedicate towards research for a cure by walking in all 50 states.

The July Minnesota walk took place over 3 days in Minneapolis and St. Paul, totaling 50 miles. 12 individuals walked all 3 days--the most individuals to finish a full walk. The first day of the walk, Saturday, July 23rd, was the first SAN walk open to public participation. 56 registered individuals participated in the 16.5 mile walk, persevering through the stormy weather all morning, while an additional 24 volunteers helped to facilitate the walk throughout the day.

"It was amazing how many people came up to us over the 3 days, thanking us and sharing their own story of how Alzheimer's has touched their lives," said McDuffee. "That is one of the most important parts of what we are doing - spreading awareness and giving people an opportunity to talk about how the disease has impacted them!"

The Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation co-sponsored the event and matched the registration fee of every North Star advisor and team member who participated. Community sponsors of the event included Papa John's Pizza (who contributed 20 pizzas), Lake Monster Brewery (who contributed a barrel of beer to walkers), Evolv LifeBars, the Seward Co-op in Minneapolis and Mike Mussman from K102/KFAN. The total amount raised from the walk came to over $20,000, bringing the total raised to date by the organization to $235,000. SAN plans to make the open participation Minnesota walk an annual event.
