She prepared for her career by earning a Ph.D. in International Health Studies from Touro University and a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Duquesne University.

Dr. Martinez has numerous certifications in compliance, including a health care compliance certification from Seton Hall University, a leadership in compliance certification from INSEAD University in France, and a CCEP certification from the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics. In 2013, she received an award for outstanding leadership from The International Women's Leadership Association. Additionally, Dr. Martinez received a certificate of appreciation from the University of Miami School of Business Administration for outstanding performance and lasting contributions in development of their certification in Latin America Health Care Compliance Program.
