Cast Album Released: SON of the STORM by Stephen Melillo

Based on Characters Conceived by Mary Shelley 200 years ago this Summer

"SON the STORM is inspired by a belief shared with Beethoven... that all men shall be brothers. To that purpose, we offer this work."

NEW YORK, NY, August 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pulitzer Prize nominated composer, Stephen Melillo whose 1140 plus works have been heard in every corner of the globe has just released the new opera cast album SON of the STORM, from STORMRecords, a division of STORMWORKS, bringing together an array of Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar recognized artists.

SON of the STORM is a piece that Melillo was initially inspired to write in 1990. "The original version of the work was composed, orchestrated, story-boarded, set with texts and lyrics in 29 round-the-clock days," Melillo reflects.

The theme of this newly resurrected opera, set in two turbulent periods of history, 1946 and 33 years earlier in 1913, is "life itself!" Victor, voiced by renowned opera singer Adelmo Guidarelli, and SON of the STORM's maker of The Creature, is a good man...torn in many places, deep in the heart and soul. His work is his life and he has in fact succeeded in creating the ultimate work of art, a man. The Creature, Victor's creation is new to the world, a living artwork, which unlike any work yet created, can look back at the creator and into the world.

Through the eyes of Victor's young son William (Karlene Grinberg) we learn the message that The Creature brings to humanity. Composer Stephen Melillo explains, "As the double album set draws to a close we hear a huge orchestral finale quoting a work originally composed in 1976, 40 years ago. There is a small moment of release into an eternal reverberating void. William proclaims, 'We're alive!' That simple thing is the whole point, the whole message. We're alive... like The Creature (Matt Branic) sings, 'to feel hate and love...' SON of the STORM is simply that... a message of love amidst the storm."

"There are many questions posed by the piece," Melillo continues. "What is Beauty? What am I and why am I here to ask? Don't you get sick of giving? What awaits me when I die? Many questions... and the music itself is the answer."

SON of the STORM has been recorded in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast for this album. The vibrant performances by the cast and orchestra brought forth in this work are seamlessly backed by the haunting support of The Tritonus Chorus of Germany, conducted by Klaus Brecht.

When asked about his goals for this opera, composer Stephen Melillo simply responded, "SON the STORM is inspired by a belief shared with Beethoven... that all men shall be brothers. To that purpose, we offer this work."
