Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Loretta Herrington as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    WASHINGTON, DC, September 01, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Loretta Herrington, Program Director for World Institute on Disability (WID), has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Loretta Herrington will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2016/2017.

Appointed by President George W. Bush to serve in the Executive Branch, Loretta Herrington went on to work a total of eight years in administration in several executive positions, enabling her to combine her love for her country with her career. Today, as Program Director for World Institute on Disability (WID), which is based in Berkeley, California, Herrington works from her home office managing a government grant that places college students with disabilities in internships with small businesses and for international business development. Making sure that the organization's partners on the government project perform at their highest levels and meet the necessary objectives and metrics, Herrington supports WID's international program building leadership and capacity for disabled persons' organizations in post-conflict and developing countries while promoting full inclusion of people with disabilities in to all aspects of society.

"My years as part of an executive team in the federal government gave me the opportunity to work with an extremely talented group of men and women," Herrington noted. "It also allowed me to use my communication and collaborative management skills with the ability to work cross functionally with a diverse group of stakeholders. The expertise that I developed in my current role enables me to work successfully with corporate entities, government, and community stakeholders."

Developing a sense of duty as a military spouse, Herrington credits much of her success today with previous work involving other military wives. The close relationships she made served as a great support system for many of these women, where she became a liaison between families and women struggling during their spouses' absences.

Herrington recently authored her first book, 'Piece of Soul Through the Heart: A Soul's Journey', which can be found on Amazon.com and Authorhouse.com. The book is story of the heart and feelings of the soul that captures nuance, humor, and joy that is guided by the light and promise of God, ritual, nation, family, and by the proud heritage that links generations worldwide to the common human experience of hope in the shadow of adversity.
