Colin Kaepernick's protest has caused a firestorm of criticism for the QB, who is battling for a starting job and perhaps even a roster spot on the Niners.
SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA, September 02, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The dominant story in sports the past few days has been the controversial decision of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to purposefully not stand during the national anthem in a preseason game as a way to protest how blacks have been treated. It has caused a firestorm of criticism for Kaepernick, who is battling for a starting job and perhaps even a roster spot on the Niners. So what's next for him?
Will Kaepernick make the team when final cuts are announced?
That is very much up for debate, which would have been unthinkable even two years ago when he was a rising superstar. Kaepernick is likely to lose the QB battle with Blaine Gabbert. Though Gabbert not playing can be interpreted as a signal that he has won the starting job, coach Chip Kelly said Gabbert had 30 more game reps than Kaepernick -- who did not play the first two preseason games because of shoulder soreness.
