Royal College of General Practitioners Accredits a New CPD Opportunity at Groundbreaking Recruitment and Training Event

A new conference will provide GPs with an opportunity to update skills and knowledge across a range of clinical areas.

Taking place at the inaugural Healthcare Recruitment and Training Fair, the General Practitioner Conference will cover a range of topics, including:
- digestive diseases with a focus on liver function tests;
- pigmented and non-pigmented skin lesions;
- achieving better glycaemic control non-insulin therapy management;
- better advice for uric acid level regulation for gout patients; and
- chronic bronchitis assessment and therapy

Free to attend, the General Practice Conference has been accredited for its educational / CPD content by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), the professional membership body and guardian of standards for family doctors in the UK.

The RCGP Accreditation Quality Mark is an identifiable symbol of quality assurance that associates educational activities with the professionalism, expertise and commitment expected for the highest possible standards of general practice. It is awarded to education providers so that GPs can be confident the education they select has been independently assessed and is a consistent and high quality resource, reducing their risk, as well as saving time and cost.

Dr Farah Jameel of Camden Local Medical Committee and a member of the General Practitioners Committee, British Medical Association, will chair the conference. Speakers will include Dr Farooq Khan, Consultant Hepatologist, Hepatobiliary Endoscopy, at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and Dr Haroon Ali, Consultant General Practitioner at the Royal Derby Hospital.

The General Practice Conference is one of 18 conferences taking place during the new Healthcare Recruitment & Training Fair, which runs from September 15-17 2016 at ExCel London. The GP conference will take place on the Saturday so that GPs are better able to attend.

Other clinical areas with dedicated conferences over the three days which will be of particular interest to primary care health professionals include: diabetes, paediatrics, dermatology, cardiology, orthopaedics, and obstetrics and gynaecology.

In addition, a number of conferences are aimed at improving recruitment and retention strategies, and the wider aspect of career progression. For example, the Placement and Specialist Selection Workshop, also on September 17, includes a session on how to approach the medical specialist application form and prepare the perfect medical CV.

Running alongside the conferences is a healthcare recruitment fair with exhibitors representing a range of trusts, clinical commissioning groups, and healthcare service providers from around the UK. Over 400 jobs vacancies are being promoted by employers including University College Hospital London, Kings College Hospital, and Whittington Health.

Also taking part are a number of overseas and international organisations who are particularly keen to recruit UK-trained doctors, including representatives from Western Australia, and Gulf Region hospitals in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Doha. The Cleveland Clinic will also be represented.

The event comes at a time when doctors are beginning to see new opportunities presented under the GP Forward View. The ambitious NHS target of recruiting an additional 5,000 GPs by 2020 is spurring on a number of initiatives adopting innovative approaches to recruitment and retention.

NHS England has been providing regular updates on its Targeted Investment in Recruiting Returning Doctors Scheme, and the GP National Recruitment Office overseen by Health Education England is offering one-off bursaries of GBP20,000 to GP trainees under its Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme in England.

The Healthcare Recruitment & Training Fair and all of the conferences are free to attend, but visitors are asked to register in advance to gain fast-track access into the exhibition, conference streams and to be kept up-to-date with the latest event news and updates.
