They are both thrilled and excited to announce that Dr Richard D Cottrell is now associated with their practice. Dr Cottrell practiced in Lake Forest since 1981 when he purchased the practice of Dr Schaffer. He moved his office Lake Forest Dental Associates to 133 E Laurel Ave in 1992.

Dr Cottrell has a lifetime to executing the finest dentistry possible to his patients. Following selling his practice Dr Cottrell found that he missed the wonderful interaction with patients and searched for a new home to comfortably practice his art.

Dr Cottrell is an an expert in implant dentistry and sold his patents on implants to the company that currently manufactures them, Astra Dental Implants.

Dr Cottrell is adding his experience in placing and restoring dental implants to Dr Shapira's 38 years experience and Dr Amidei's 28 years experience starting in a post graduate program residency at Northwestern Dental School.

Dr Cottrell will see patients on Thursdays but hopes to expand to several days a week over time. He feels this association will be the perfect retirement allowing him to Golf, Ski and Travel and practice the profession he adores. Dr Cottrell can rest easy knowing that while he enjoys extra time to embark on other pursuits his patients will be well cared for in a warm friendly practice dedicated to excellence in Dentistry.

Dr Cottrell was Dr Mark Amidei's dentist while he was growing up and he credits Dr Cottrell with instilling in him his love of dentistry. Mark knew he wanted to be a dentist since he was 8 years old!

Dr Shapira is a pioneer in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine and a founder of the Sleep Disorder Dental Society which later became the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and celebrated its 25th year. Dr Shapira was doing research at Rush as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Sleep Disorder Service under Dr Rosalind Cartwright beginning in 1985. He became an Assistant Professor in 1998 and treated patients for many years at Rush Medical School.

Dr Ira L Shapira created the I HATE CPAP (www.ihatecpap.com) and I HATE HEADACHE (www.ihateheadaches.org) websites to help patients find help with these difficult medical disorders that medicine can frequently not treat adequately without a dental collaboration. Dr Shapira did research in the 1980's as a visiting assistant professor at Rush Medical School where he worked with Rosalind Cartwright PhD who is primarily responsible for the entire field of Dental Sleep Medicine. He also studied with Dr Barney Jankelson who created the initial concepts that neuromuscular dentistry still uses today and created a company Myotronics that is the leading manufacturer of instrumentation used by Neuromuscular Dentistry.

Dr Shapira had several offices treaing sleep apnea and snoring across Chicagoland but closed them while his wife of 37, Elise years was battling ovarian cancer. He has now opened Think Better Life in Highland Park with the help of his wife Anna and continues to practice as Chicagoland Dental Sleep Medicine.
