Celebrate Mexican Independence Day this Weekend at Ixcateco Grill

Ixcateco Grill is serving a special traditional dish this Mexican Independence Day and you won't want to miss tasting it!

CHICAGO, IL, September 17, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mexican Independence Day, September 16, is one of the biggest holidays in Mexico and the celebrations last the whole weekend. Ixcateco Grill (3402 W. Montrose, Chicago; 773-539-5887) is joining the celebration this weekend with Chef/Owner Anselmo Ramirez' special twist on a dish traditionally found at Mexican Independence Day festivities: Chiles en Nogada ($20). In English, it means "chilies in walnut sauce," and it's a classic Mexican dish consisting of a green poblano chili stuffed with a picadillo, covered in a walnut cream sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, mirroring the three colors of the Mexican Flag. This special Chiles en Nogada will only be available this Friday, Saturday and Sunday so come on in and get it while you can!

No fiesta is complete without a fresh, authentic margarita and this weekend Ixcateco Grill will have a homemade margarita mix ($4 per glass) made with fresh juices. Since Ixcateco is BYOB, all you need is to bring your own tequila or mezcal and you can make your margarita as strong as you want!

More about Mexican Independence Day
Festivities begin on the eve of El Grito de la Independencia, where crowds of people gather together in designated town meeting places around eleven o'clock. In Mexico City, the President rings the historic liberty bell originally rung by Father Hidalgo and he repeats the Grito de Dolores speech. In other towns, the mayor rings a bell and follows the same practice. Then the crowd erupts in the singing of the national anthem and upon them rains a shower of confetti and streamers. The colors of the Mexican flag are seen everywhere. "Viva Mexico" and "Viva la independencia" is shouted in remembrance of this momentous day. Then on the actual anniversary of the Mexican Independence Day, September 16th, the Mexican people celebrate with plenty of delicious food, parades, and entertainment.
