After Dr. Sandberg earned a Bachelor of Arts in classical Greek and history of religion from Bryn Mawr College, she went on to become an ordained Rabbi from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, and earned a Ph.D. in post-biblical Hebrew literature, specializing in Rabbinics, from the University of Pennsylvania. She also has an honorary doctorate from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Currently the director of Jewish-Christian Studies for Gratz College, Dr. Sandberg is skilled in building relationships between Rabbinic Judaism and early Christianity, Jewish-Christian relations, early Rabbinic midrash, classical Rabbinic theology, and the process of Jewish law.
Dr. Sandberg's greatest strengths are the relationships that she has established with her students. She is passionate about her work and loves to mentor her young students to be successful in their careers and in their lives. Her greatest accomplishment is having created the Jewish-Christian Studies program. There was hesitancy at the beginning of this program, but she was determined to have this program be a part of Gratz College's curriculum. She is a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, and was recently appointed as the co-president of the Cheltenham Area Multifaith Council.
Dr. Sandberg is an honored member of The International Women's Leadership Association, recognized for her contribution to family, career and community. She is the author of two books: "Rabbinic Views of Qohelet," which was published by Mellen Biblical Press in 1999, and "Development and Discontinuity in Jewish Law," which was published by University Press of America in 2002. She also contributed a chapter to "The Words of the Wise Are Like Goads: Engaging Qoheleth in the 21st Century," which came out in 2013. In the coming years, Dr. Sandberg would like to continue her program and expand it into an interfaith program including Muslin studies. She is working on an Interfaith Institution in the very near future.
