"Mr. Robot" Star Carly Chaikin Announced as Emcee of NAMIWalks Los Angeles

    LOS ANGELES, CA, September 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) announced today that Carly Chaikin, star of USA Network's Golden Globe-winning show Mr. Robot, will emcee the annual NAMIWalks event October 1st 2016 at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles.  

NAMIWalks is the annual fundraising walk for Los Angeles County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) affiliates. The walk raises money for free programs and services. Over 5,000 walkers are expected from every corner of Los Angeles County. The theme for the 2016 NAMI walk is Lights, Camera, Action on Mental Health!

Stars from film and TV have pledged to support the walk, including Chaikin, known as the reigning tough girl of prestige television for her roles in "Suburgatory" and "Mr. Robot." Chaikin plays Darlene, sister of main character Elliot Alderson, portrayed by Emmy award-winning actor Rami Malek. Elliot suffers from dissociative identity disorder and depression, which causes him to lead an isolated life.

Chaikin will be on the NAMIWalks event stage at 9:00 am Saturday October 1st at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles to welcome walkers and friends gathered to support NAMI Los Angeles County.

"Just because a person's pain isn't obvious on the outside doesn't mean they aren't hurting on the inside...see the person, not the condition." says Chaikin in a PSA for NAMI. "I am really excited to be a part of NAMIWalks 2016. In 2015, I joined the walk and I was incredibly moved by how many people, especially multi-generational families, were there. People seemed like they were enjoying the simple pleasure of walking together to raise money for a good cause. I realized it was not possible to guess who in that crowd of over 3,000 people might be living with a mental illness. It reminded me that NAMI does such important work. They work to overcome stigma related to mental illness and provide services to people living with mental illness and to their families and friends. Stigma should never stand in the way of getting mental health treatment. I am proud to be a part of NAMIWalks and to be #StigmaFree."

Chaikin urges Mr. Robot fans and friends to support NAMIWalks by joining her team on October 1st and by donating to her NAMIWalks page. Another star who supports NAMIWalks is Emmy-nominated actress Mayim Bialik, star of the CBS hit The Big Bang Theory, who has recorded a series of PSAs in support of NAMI and NAMIWalks.
