/24-7PressRelease/ - BOSTON, MA, March 06, 2008 - The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, the first Renaissance property in downtown Boston, opens this week. The $165 million hotel project is the next chapter in the fast-paced development story of the South Boston Waterfront's Seaport District.
The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel offers 471 guestrooms, including 21 suites. It also features over 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, with a 10,700-square-foot ballroom and a 4,400-square-foot junior ballroom that are conveniently located on the same floor. Managed by Marriott International, this hotel is a flagship of the Renaissance Hotels & Resorts brand.
Cambridge, Massachusetts architects, Kling Stubbins, created the sleek 21-story building, which redefines the skyline, with a design inspired by the sails of a ship billowing in the wind. The hotel's interior, developed by Beverly Hills, California-based Cheryl Rowley Design, celebrates the seaport setting, and pays homage to Boston's newest waterfront playground. The d cor weaves marine-inspired elements, vivid colors and dramatic finishes into the hotel's custom-crafted artwork, furnishings and fixtures. The design team was inspired by the great luxury liners of the 1930s and 1940s: the Normandie, the Queen Elizabeth, the Libertine, and the Nieuw Amsterdam. These ships became the design inspiration, and gave foundation to the guest experience the designers hoped to create: discovery, excitement and leisure.
The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel's technology sets a new standard in the hospitality industry. This tech-savvy hotel offers a DS-3 line, which operates 28 times faster than the speed of a T-1, and allows guests to stream video, host video conferences and run their largest internet-based presentations - simultaneously - without sacrificing speed. This oceanfront hotel in Boston also features innovative guestroom plug-in technology for laptops, MP3 players, camcorder and digital cameras, in-room 37" high-definition, flat panel TVs and wired and wireless Internet available on the same network throughout the property.
Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Michael Schlow lends creative direction to the modern American restaurant, 606 Congress. Schlow arrived on the Boston restaurant scene over 10 years ago and has played a significant role in elevating the city's cuisine at his award-winning restaurants including Radius, Via Matta, Great Bay and Alta Strada. Chef Toby Hill, formerly of Fireplace in Brookline, Spire at the Nine Zero hotel, and the Federalist at the XV Beacon hotel, oversees the kitchen at 606 Congress. The stunning Boston waterfront restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating, two private dining rooms, an exhibition kitchen, a communal chef's table and decorative floor-to-ceiling wine racks.
Conveniently located directly east of Boston's bustling Financial District, the hotel is in close proximity to the new Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, downtown Boston and Logan International Airport. It is in walking distance of numerous major attractions, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston's Children Museum, Boston Design Center, Boston Harbor Walk, Fanueil Hall Market Place, the New England Aquarium and more.
