DENVER, CO, September 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Family Promise of Greater Denver, an affiliate of Family Promise, is proud to be part of a national week focused on helping families in need. The week of Oct. 16 through 23 has been designated Family Promise Week, creating awareness surrounding issues of homelessness and celebrating volunteers in our community.
Family Promise is comprised of 200 affiliates that partner with local congregations to provide shelter, meals, facilities for case management, and thousands of volunteer opportunities. In 2015, Family Promise of Greater Denver served 238 individuals, and more than half were children. Local volunteers also supported the program through 28,993 volunteer hours.
Nationally, Family Promise provided shelter to more than 50,000 last year, and children comprised the majority.
"There is an urgent need to address family homelessness," said Allie Card, executive director at Family Promise of Greater Denver. "Across the United States, families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, and Family Promise Week helps to generate awareness surrounding trends, issues and resources to support these families."
Family Promise is also hosting a Denver-area opportunity to dine out for our mission Oct. 19: Learn about local efforts to recognize National Family Promise Week: http://www.familypromiseofgreaterdenver.org/blog-purpose-pizza.
